Do you imagine yourself speaking up in big or small ways for women across the world? Then maybe you’re exactly the person we are looking to join our Advocacy Trips.
Foxglove is committed to fundraising, education and advocacy for women living in poverty in the Developing World. We passionately believe in the value of people and their capacity to help themselves.
We have come to understand that when advocating for others, it is important that we understand their character, customs and personal worlds. This is often best achieved by travelling to their home countries, meeting with people and hearing their stories.
The purpose of the Foxglove Advocacy Trips is twofold: 1) to understand the needs, opportunities and context of the women we represent and 2) to fundraise, educate and advocate on behalf of women across the world - both in the short and longer term.
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed it is the only thing that ever has.”
- Margaret Mead
Purpose of the Trips
As part of our trips, we all commit to a number of activities that both benefit Foxglove’s mission and demonstrate our core value of focusing on people over tasks or infrastructure:
Storytelling – we have questions and guidelines for capturing stories in word, image and video. All team members will work together to listen to women and families expressing their needs, hopes and achievements. and then turn this information into Foxglove stories.
Celebration Events –we often attend a graduation, award giving ceremony or community event that allows us to witness the achievements of an individual or community.
Community Meals – we meet with program and community leaders, as well as beneficiaries, to share a meal and informal conversation.
Local Accommodation –Foxglove teams stay in guest houses and local accommodation that see us integrated with the local community and walking to local eating houses for meals and snacks.
Community Fundraising – we ask each person to raise $1000 for the project they are visiting. We have an online fundraising platform available to make asking friends and family members to get involved an easy and encouraging experience.
